The Authoritative Blog on Stamford Connecticut
2 Feb
I just got back from having some brake service done on my car at Midas at 41 Main St in Stamford. Man, that area of Stamford is a dump! Homeless people wandering the streets, a crazy man blocking traffic…all just a few blocks from downtown Stamford. No wonder Stamford needs 5000 police officers. Half of this town appears to be a crime infested waste land.
Where can I take my car to be serviced without feeling like I need to pack some heat? This was just one of those days where I questioned why I live in this city. I like the quiet North Stamford area I live in, but step two feet out of that boundary and I might as well be in a different world.

No, Stamford doesn’t have 5,000 police officers! Although, it seems like it, because I see a police car almost everytime I drive in Stamford. No joke.
Speaking of car service, does anyone know of a decent garage in Stamford?
Have you ever seen how much these police officers make?
For basic repairs I highly recommend Myrtle Ave Auto (which, confusingly, is now on Diaz Ave)
Diaz Ave might be a little too “Harlem” for Mr. Stamford, but MAA does good work for very reasonable prices.

Harlem has some fun restaurants…
Zobot, thank you much for the tip.
You know what? You’re a pretty transparent racist jerk. I’ve lived in the East Side around the corner from that Midas for years and I’ve never had problems. My neighbors are friendly and diverse. You think it looks like HARLEM on the East Side? What’s wrong with you? First you consider people of Italian descent to be like Tony Sopranos, now you venture down from North Stamford and say that the East Side is a “crime infested waste land”??????
What a jerk. You should rename your blog Mr. North Stamford Snob Who Hates the Stamford That Isn’t All Rich Snobs.
The East Side is the most crime infested area of Stamford…those are just facts. Sorry if I do not feel as safe there than 3 blocks away in downtown Stamford.
I’m a bit confused, but I haven’t been here as long as some of you. Isn’t that Midas on the West Side of Stamford?
I thought we meant the Midas on the West Side, too.
Mr. S. where are you getting your facts about crime? I did a quick google search and didn’t find much.
I think crime-infested is a bit of an exaggeration, for any part of Stamford. I feel safe driving anywhere in Stamford in the day. At night, I don’t feel safe much of anywhere bc I am a woman. I couldn’t even walk in Darien at night in the 2 years I lived there.
As far as crime in Stamford, I have the impression crime is sprinkled throughout. We ain’t Greenwich, that’s for sure! Their police blotter cracks me up; it’s all DUIs.
Mr. S, I have to ask, where are you FROM that makes Stamford seem so awful to you?
Just using “infested” as a descriptor is pretty damned disgusting when describing a neighborhood.
But the fact is, you are wrong about the East Side being the highest-crime area in Stamford. Relative to population density, the East Side is very safe. And Stamford overall is the safest city in Connecticut and the 9th safest city in the country.
(BTW, to commenters above, there is a Midas on the East Side, too, just next to the new Dunkin Donuts on East Main Street. The guys there are very nice.)
We’re treating this blog more like a message board now, but isn’t the shop next to the East Main Dunkin Donuts (a very nice 24 hr DD, by the way) a Meineke, not Midas? That’s the one set back off the road a little bit, right?
Speaking of that area, has anyone ever been to Sergio’s Pizza? That place always seems busy, but I’ve never heard anyone talking about it…
I think I have the east side and the west side mixed up. Th e East side is the Darien border? West side Greenwich border?
Yes, that’s correct. The East Side of Stamford is the Darien Border (thus East Main St), and the West Side of Stamford is toward the Greenwich Border (thus West Main St)
Much of Stamford’s more recent violent crimes have been on the West Side.
Also, I checked on my drive home today (I am also an East Sider) and the car care shop next to the East Main Dunkin is in fact a Meineke. I still want someone to tell me about Sergio’s though!
